This is from the Chicago Tribune. It's interesting to think about the ways that we treat one another. I've noticed that as human beings we tend to enforce our laws on the unfortunate and disenfranchised; in this case on hard working heads of households, who more often then not have an honest point of view in life here in America. There are many more shadier things that are of no concern to us. We aren't made aware of their existence since they work in the backgrounds of our quotidian life. What's worse is that it is planned within the political agenda of the administration in power to scapegoat the unfortunate and the disenfranchised. Don't you know it's easier than fixing things?

What's great is that the location where they hold the people that they keep. The National Cattle Congress in Waterloo, Iowa. It seems the government has a bit of history with this place. Here is an article for this.

How to deport illegal aliens?

Step one: sedate them.

Here's an article by Fox of all people.

No really, literally sedate them. I can't believe I found this. This takes place in Los Angeles, and apparently, "To get a sedation order from court, officials must show deportees have a history of physical resistance to being removed or are a danger to themselves."

So all you have to prove is that they show physical resistance and boom, you got it easy. Wow, the question is what they define as physical resistance. I'm almost sure their definition to a "physical" resistance is loose, real loose.

May 1st Immigration Reform march
Here is a about it occurring in Austin, Texas. The original intent was to allow the Texas Governer to see it out of his mansion. Too bad he doesn't live in it while it's being renovated. One of the most remarkable statements that touched me was this:

"I'm here because we need immigration reform immediately," said marcher Victor Ibarra, 38. "We need to be able to travel and be free."

Just so simple and beautiful. Immigration reform leads to freedom Mr. Ibarra's eyes.

Wow it's been a while since I have posted anything. Now I'm almost two years older, and these eyes have changed. The manner of looking at the world has changed. The manner in which I interact has changed. My points of view have grown more aware of the different forces at play, and I have coped with their existence by learning how they work. I was 21 when I made this, my first blog; just a pup living immaturely under the watchful eye of American society. As an American whose family originates from Chiapas, Mexico, everything I saw as being immigration almost two years ago was solely based on physical attributes, and language, characteristics of being all too aware of the consequences of not being part of the larger whole in the perception of the “perceived” American identity.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at this. What is the end result of these procedures the current White House Administration for dealing with immigration in the United States? Why not solve the problems by resolving the root of the issue: Foreign economic policies. NAFTA anyone? I'm pretty sure people are affected by this across Latin America.

Quite facinating, don't you agree? It seems that Republicans and some Democrats think alike. Well, at least Republicans can rest peacefully when Democrats are trying to pass immigration bills.

Could the results of the mid-term elections be due to a less xenophobic outlook by American voters?

Miguel Perez of the Chicago Sun Times believes so. He brings out some interesting facts concerning the American Latino vote and the consequences it had concerning the immigration issue at hand during elections this year. Pretty interesting stuff, however I don't think that this was the only issue that the American voter (whether he or she was Black, White, Asian, Latino or what ever our census labels us as being) had in mind while voting. I like the way Miguel Perez frames this mid-term election with the Hispanic demographic in mind.

When thinking of immigrant workers in the United States of America, thoughts of blissful opportunities do not come to mind. This feeling might stem from me being born and raised in this great nation of ours with first hand experience in the lives of many immigrants. I was made aware to the intricacies of my nation’s prosperity at an early age, exposing me to the unfair labor practices brought forth by the liberties given to our free market. Here is an article in which the American and Mexican presidents are in effect negotiating the cost of labor in the United States. I see this benefiting, to a large extent, only American employers, excluding the majority of the American people. At the same time that I’m getting this feeling I am trying to grasp my way around the fact that the Mexican president, in a way, is selling out his people. I’m sure he is aware of the labor practices in use by the many industries taking part in guest worker programs, yet he is willingly bargaining away his people.

What are the effects of the so called raids done by immigration officials? Besides taking care of only part of the problem (since they do not stop the illegal hiring of non-citizens for their available employee positions by American employers), what are the consequences of these raids? Towns/cities like Stillmore, Georgia whose economy is based on illegal labor can give great forsight of what might happen.

Instead of learning about a different culture and its tongue a majority of Americans prefer to legislate laws against doing such a thing. However, other Americans are taking a stand against laws full of bigotry and discontent.

In the post-World War II world Europe has been enduring a constant change, making relationships work with a mass of people from a variety of different nations with vastly different cultures and languages. I'm wondering why we cannot do the same? We have so many less countries with even less spoken languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French and yes even English). We have not suffered the feuds of waring nation states, yet we have such lowly visions of our neighboring countries and their people.

At the moment I'm pinching myself trying to figure out if this site is true to my senses. Bikers who secure the southwestern border between the Aztec nation and the States? Someone needs to make a bimonthly comic of the adventures of Gus the biker and his misadventures in dealing with the illegal hiring of non-US citizens (not just illegal immigration, they don't pay themselves for their work). I think he would have a dog as his side kick. Hmm... Should he be called Pantaleón de Díos? I do think so.

The federal reserve chairman of the United States of America says that in theory "immigrants tend to be younger than the average population and have larger families, so they would help support older Americans who are withdrawing from the labor force." That's only in theory. We will need a whole bunch of'em so that an aging generation of Americans can feed of their backs, so immigration won't solve US aging problem after all. I never really thought about older American's living off the backs of working people, but now that you mention America’s Capitol City was built on the backs of slaves.

"They took our jobs!" Should really be, "They are illegally giving out our jobs!"
I stumbled upon an article by Thom Hartmann, Immigration: The Issue Republican's are using in 2006, which totally breaks down the dominant point of view of immigration in America, that of “illegal immigration,” and replaces it with “illegal employers.” The thought has crossed my mind in the past, but it’s easy to forget seeing as to how the argument in big media tends to revolve on how people are illegally immigrating to the states and taking the jobs of Americans, instead of the people hiring them - American employers. Thom Hartmann argues that the problem lies with the conservative legislations brought forth since the Reagan administration that have been all too lenient on employers by not reprimanding them for hiring illegal immigrants by fining their breeches off.

At the moment of typing this post I'm eating in a heavenly vegetarian restaurant on campus and notice that the help in the kitchen and around the tables don't seem to understand much English. I think to myself... "My friend Mr. Woodard would love to cook and serve a vegetarian dish to me... But not really."

The intent for the creation of this blog is for the discussion of the ongoing immigration issue in the United States of America. Immigration is an ongoing issue not because it has spanned a couple of years or even decades, but because it was the very foundation of this nation. America was founded by both willing (colonists) and unwilling immigrants (indentured servants and slaves) of the old world, and it has become what it is today as a consequence of this early European (colonization) and African (slavery) immigration. This is why the issue of immigration is at the very heart of America. It has defined America and will continue to do so.
